  • “Before coming to Shanghai, I had studied Mandarin for 3 years, but since taking up classes at Ocean Mandarin, my Chinese has improved significantly. My primary reason for approaching the school was for specific HSK tuition. At that time, I worked full-time and could only study at evenings and weekends, but through the specialist guidance of its teachers, I improved from Level 4 to Level 7 in the space of 12 months.
Now, back in the UK, I continue taking classes with Fiona over Skype. She makes sure my learning objectives are clear before class, and delivers effective lessons based on our agreed learning plan. Highly recommended! ”

“I have been studying with OceanMandarin for 6 months and have made significant progress. They are flexible, friendly and always push me to improve. I have and continue to recommend them to friends and everyone is impressed. It is difficult not to take advantage of this great value.”
    (James Hull)

"I have been taking weekly one-on-one classes with Ocean Mandarin for the last five months. I am working full time in Shanghai so it has been great to have space and time each week to focus on my Chinese and prepare for the HSK with a professional and caring teacher. It can be hard to fit study and homework into a working week but Ocean Mandarin offers me the flexibility and structure I need. I am sure I would have given up if it weren't for the great support and enthusiasm my teacher has shown for my studies. I will always be grateful to her for her guidance and encouragement...and my HSK certificate!"
    (Freya Aitken-Turff)

“I would suggest "Ocean Mandarin" to everyone that wants to learn or improve his Chinese level. Teachers are highly knowledgeable and very careful to the student's need. They don't offer you only a simple language lesson but the staff is very friendly and they help you to deal with everyday Chinese life. Moreover prices are reasonable and location is central. Try one lesson and you won't do without it!”
    (Erika Carpin)

What I like in these courses is that it is very flexible: We can talk of any subject of interest, and thus learn the related vocabularies. Also, we can do some role play, which help to improve as I have to react as if I was the real character. Thus it prepares me better to speak Chinese correctly. (Sophie Lemunier)
  • Thank you very much Fiona!Thank you for your help and kindness! I will recommend my friends to take classes in your institute. I was glad to have Rita as a teacher, she is hard working and really patient. Two excellent qualities for a teacher. Wish you the best of luck for the future! If you open a new school in Beijing, let me know! (pierre Antoine Cierin)

Chinese Fengshui
Feng Shui (风水 fēng shuǐ) is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics that is
believed to use the laws of both Heaven (astronomy) and Earth (geography)
to help improve one’s life by receiving positive Qi (a movable positive or negative life force which plays an essential role in Fengshui). Fengshui masters believe different genders, birthdays, star and earth layouts require different aspects of Fengshui. Sometimes, Fengshui masters prescribe lengthy and complex rules that may strike modern homeowners as quirky. But if you understand the basics, you will find that everything falls under your control.
In our Fengshui classes, the teacher will introduce you to many of the different concepts Fengshui. What is Fengshui? What do Yin and Yang and the five Fengshui elements mean? How do they work together and how can we analyze them by ourselves?

Chinese Calligraphy (Brush calligraphy, Hard-pen calligraphy)
Chinese calligraphy is an oriental tradition rooted in centuries of practice. It is an art of turning square Chinese characters into expressive images through the responsiveness of rice paper and the speed and pressure of a pointed Chinese brush.
There are five common scripts in Chinese calligraphy:

scripts and will encourage you to try!
