General Introduction to Practical Chinese Courses
Practical Chinese courses aim to improve your day-to-day Chinese, and it is especially useful for those wishing to learn Chinese in a systematic way. Phonetics and methods of constructing Chinese characters will be introduced in detail at the beginner level; words and main grammar points will be explained clearly at the intermediate stage; reading comprehension and writing will be trained at the advanced stage.

Beginner Courses:
This course starts with phonetics (pinyin and tones), which is the pronunciation of Chinese characters. It also aims to enable students to use and understand simple and practical conversations in daily life. During the Beginner Course, you will learn 1870 words, more than 160 sentences, and 222 grammar points, laying a solid foundation for studying Mandarin and understanding Chinese culture. You will be able to achieve HSK level 4 when you finished this course.
Elementary 1 Courses: What will students learn? This course starts with phonetics (pinyin and tones), and there are many practical conversations, such as saying hello, asking someone’s nationality, asking someone’s name, introducing oneself, looking for someone, saying goodbye, asking for directions, expressing thanks, making suggestions, refusing or declining politely, meeting someone for the first time, talking about family, asking about someone’s occupation, making an appointment, celebrating someone’s birthday, likes and dislikes, shopping, asking about time, talking about one’s health, renting a house, making a phone call, invitations, etc.
Elementary 2 courses: What will students learn? This course starts with methods of constructing Chinese characters, and there are many practical conversations as well, such as changing money at the bank, filling out forms, making new friends, comparing things, buying clothes, at the post office, taking the bus, talking about hobbies, asking reasons, hurrying somebody up, talking about direction and location, talking about sports matches, looking for a job, talking about a past experience, talking about the weather, purchasing plane tickets, going to a restaurant, talking about living conditions, picking someone up and seeing someone off, visiting a patient, etc.
Elementary 3 courses: What will foreign students learn? This course starts with many new words and main grammar points, and there are many commonly used topics, such as expressing one’s opinion, presenting and appreciating a gift, worrying about something, emphasizing an affirmation, expressing modesty, giving encouragement, asking about something, giving a vague response, explaining, talking about the climate, in a restaurant, congratulating newly-weds, making a decision, etc.
Intermediate Courses This course is suitable for students who have finished the Beginner course, or those who have equivalent ability. Students will learn in more detail about peoples’ lives in China, after which you will be able to engage your teachers and friends in deep conversations about the important issues. All texts comprise dialogues by using native conversational Chinese. You will learn 6480 words, more than 200 sentences, and 324 grammar points in the Intermediate course, and you will feel comfortable with speaking, writing, understanding and reading. You will be able to obtain HSK Level 8 after finishing this course.
Intermediate 1 courses: What will foreign students learn? This course is designed for foreign students who have completed the Beginner courses. 1900 new words and 94 grammar points are introduced in this course. Your spoken Chinese will improve and your vocabulary will increase. We concentrate on teaching students to make their own sentences accurately.
Intermediate 2 courses: This course is designed for foreign students who have finished Intermediate level 1 courses or who have the equivalent ability of HSK level 5 or 6. 2200 new words and 126 grammar points is introduced in this course. We will focus on your reading and story telling, through which you will also learn more about Chinese culture and customs. We focus on teaching how to help foreign students develop their second language.
Intermediate 3 courses: This course is designed for foreign students who have finished Intermediate level 2 courses or who have the equivalent ability of HSK level 6 or 7. About 2380 new words and 134 grammar points are introduced in this course. You will be able speak very fluently at this level, and you will be able to read newspapers. We focus on helping students to pass their HSK examinations while obtaining the highest scores possible.
Advanced Courses This course aims to improve foreign students’ fluency and vocabulary, enhancing reading comprehension, writing, and the delivery of presentations and lectures fluently. Students can also pursue courses of study of their interest, eg. Business, History, Literature, and Culture. These courses bring foreigners’ Mandarin level to comparable levels of natives.
Advanced 1 courses: This course is designed for foreign students who have completed the Intermediate courses or who have the equivalent ability of HSK8. We focus on helping foreign students to improve their ability of reading and writing. Our teachers will discuss at length with the student hot topics, China specific subjects and other global concerns. Foreign students will be able to express personal opinions completely, clearly, logically, and accurately as well as obtain a score of HSK level 9.
Advanced 2 courses: This course focuses on enhancing the ability of reading comprehension, writing, and possessing the ability of giving lectures fluently. Students can also dive deeper into other fields in which they are interested in, such as Business, History, Literature, and culture, etc. Foreign students will be able to achieve a score of HSK level 10 or 11 as well as communicate on a level that is similar to a native speaker.

1. Definition of Intensive Courses: The schedule of lessons is from Monday to Friday or any 5 days in one week.Schedule can be flexible, but the lessons should be finished in the official hours.
2. Payment: The payment should be paid by cash in 3 days after the demo lesson and you sign the contract. Only accept one time pay.
3. No registration fee will be charged
4. Demo lesson will be arranged before clients who make a decision to take lessons in Ocean Mandarin.The demo lesson is 2 hours, and it charges 100RMB.The payment should be paid after the trial lesson.
5. Teaching Place: the campus of Ocean Mandarin, your office or your residence (downtown area).
6. Terminate Courses: Ocean Mandarin will keep the learning hours left for 3 months which start from the day that clients terminate courses by personal reasons. The rest of tuition fee will not be refunded.
7. Work Time of Ocean Mandarin: Our work time is from 8:00 to 21:00(Monday to Sunday).The additional tuition of RMB 30/hour will be charged if you take lessons before 8:00 or after 21:00.
8. Two hours is the minimum of each lesson per time. An additional charge of RMB30 will be charged for any lesson less than 2 hours.
9. One hour’s tuition fee will be charged if clients did not inform Ocean Mandarin or teachers 4 hours in advance for the cancellation of lessons.
